The United Nations has urged several Nordic countries to incorporate the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) into their national legislation. Norway has taken the lead by responding to this call. In January, a Norwegian expert committee submitted its recommendations to the government. The proposal aims to elevate the CRPD to equal status alongside other conventions such as the European Convention, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, which already take precedence over other legislation in Norway.

The Nordic Cooperation Council for Federations of Disability Organizations (HNR) has assessed the situation in the Nordic countries and compiled a concise report with recommendations for each government. The central question we will explore during the webinar is: What lessons can we learn from Norway’s approach?
